Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge
Community-wide initiative celebrating the opening of the new Visitor Center.
The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance have partnered with Project S.N.A.P. on a community engagement program that will result in a giant mosaic mural that will be displayed in the new 12,000 square foot Detroit River IWR Visitor Center. Expected completion of the Visitor Center is December, 2016.
The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge is the only International Wildlife Refuge in North America. The refuge includes nearly 6,000 acres of islands, coastal wetlands, marshes, shoals, and waterfront lands along 48 miles of Detroit River and Western Lake Erie shorelines.
Members of the community are invited to leave a legacy by creating artwork for this large scale mosaic mural. Students in schools in the area will have a special opportunity to participate in this exciting initiative and add their voice to the “big picture”.
Every person who creates an artwork will be able to find their artwork and exact location in the Project S.N.A.P. Online Art Museum once the mosaic mural is completed.
