When the Grammy’s began making plans for their upcoming 50th anniversary, they wanted an artist who could bring together 50 years of music history in an accessible and exciting way. Project S.N.A.P. Art Director, Roy Feinson was the ideal choice and the Grammy’s choice him as the official artist of the Grammy’s 50th Anniversary Award Show.

Feinson, who recently completed a hugely successful series of large installations for Disneyland’s 50th anniversary, wanted to do something that had never been done before. “I decided to do something in a free-form fashion, which emulated a musical jam session.”

Using thousands of photos from previous Grammy moments, Feinson fashioned a large free-form mosaic by arranging photos of varying sizes and angles in seemingly haphazard way. Much like musicians playing different instruments in a seemingly hodge-podge way, the arrangement only comes together to reveal its message when the viewer steps back. The artwork will be used for the cover of the Grammy Magazine, Grammy posters, T-Shirts, press-announcements, and will be used as a backdrop to Grammy interviews. Feinson also authored software to create a series of mosaic video presentations for the Grammy’s.
