Color a World Without Type One - "Lead"

Thousands of people in Detroit Metropolitan area and Chicagoland
collaborate to raise awareness about Type 1 diabetes.

In two separate initiatives, Project S.N.A.P. and the Ford Motor Company Fund partnered with JDRF Illinois and JDRF of Southeastern Michigan to engage thousands of children and families in local communities and schools, sharing their hope for a world free from type 1 diabetes.

Participants were excited to learn more about the impact of type 1 diabetes on the lives of people living with this condition.  Through their artworks and messages, they became stakeholders in the search for a cure as they expressed their feelings about a world without type 1 diabetes and how a cure would affect their lives and those of the people around them.  Ultimately, everyone who participated including parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters, neighbors, and friends were part of the “big picture”, a giant 4’x6’ mosaic mural entitled “Lead”.

I wanted to show just a couple ways that T1D folks take care of themselves. We’ve all got different methods for it, but the end goal is to live a good life!

Participants can access the mosaic mural online in the project S.N.A.P. Online Art Museum, read and share their artist’s statement, and see how their artwork fits into the “big picture”. The mosaic mural is also on display in the “Featured Programs” in the Project S.N.A.P. Online Art Museum.
